Osteoporosis Index of Risk (OSIRIS)
Stratifies osteoporosis risk in postmenopausal women.
- For use in asymptomatic postmenopausal women to assess their risk of osteoporosis.
- Should not be relied on for men or patients at high-risk for secondary osteoporosis (e.g., hyperparathyroidism, chronic corticosteroid use).
Advice
- Low risk: Bone densitometry testing may be postponed or avoided; focus on lifestyle modifications and routine monitoring.
- Intermediate and high risk: Bone densitometry should be considered to confirm risk and initiate appropriate management strategies such as pharmacologic interventions if indicated.
