Use in adults (women and men) aged 50 and over without previous osteoporotic fractures.
Advice
Based on the result, a patient’s risk can be assessed as:
- Low risk: <10% risk of osteoporotic fracture over 10 years.
- Moderate risk: 10-20% risk of osteoporotic fracture over 10 years.
- High risk: >20% risk of osteoporotic fracture over 10 years.
Management
- The 10-year major osteoporotic fracture risk can be used to guide next steps in management.
- Per Canadian guidelines, pharmacotherapy is:
- Recommended for high-risk individuals.
- Suggested for moderate-risk individuals.
