Osteoporosis Risk Assessment Instrument (ORAI)
Identifies women at risk for osteoporosis and recommends bone densitometry.
- Use for women 45 years and older.
- Not recommended for patients at risk of secondary osteoporosis.
Management
- A score of 9 or higher suggests a high risk for osteoporosis, warranting further investigation through bone densitometry screening.
- While the ORAI provides guidance on which patients may require additional screening, it does not account for all potential risk factors for osteoporosis. Therefore, clinical judgment is crucial in determining the appropriate next steps for each patient.
