Chemotherapy Risk Assessment Scale for High-Age Patients (CRASH) Score
Assesses the individual risk of severe toxicity from chemotherapy in older patients.
Advice
- This tool should not replace clinical judgment; results should be used alongside patient history, physical examination, and other assessments to guide treatment discussions.
- Combined or individual hematologic and nonhematologic scores may be used to stratify a patient’s risk for severe chemotherapy toxicity.
- A higher-risk score should not automatically preclude treatment; patient goals and quality of life remain central considerations.
- For those at a higher risk for toxicity:
- Consider dose modifications, alternative regimens, or supportive measures.
- Address modifiable risk factors such as nutritional status and blood pressure.
- Collaborate with nutritionists, physical therapists, social workers, and other support services to optimize patient care.
