PELD Cr (Pediatric End-Stage Liver Disease)
Updates PELD model as standard for pediatric liver transplant planning.
This score can be used to assign priority to liver transplant candidates younger than 12 years old. It is an update to the prior PELD score and was adopted by OPTN in July 2023.
Advice
- The PELD score helps to estimate prognosis for pediatric patients with end-stage liver disease, and is used to prioritize transplant recipients.
- If located in the United States, refer to official OPTN policy for liver transplant prioritization guidelines. Otherwise, follow local/national guidelines.
- In general, as the PELD Cr result increases so does the severity of liver disease (and thus the priority for transplantation assignment).
