Vesicoureteral Reflux Index (VURx)
Predicts resolution of VUR in children and risk of febrile UTI.
Use in children who are diagnosed with vesicoureteral reflux. VURx can be used to predict primary reflux improvement and resolution, as well as risk of febrile UTI.
Management
The VURx is one component of an individualized treatment plan and can facilitate discussions with parents about their child's future risk.
In general, a higher VURx score indicates a lower likelihood of spontaneous VUR resolution and a higher risk of UTI.
Optimal management of VUR continues to change, and the clinical team should include a pediatric urologist with expertise in this evolving field.
