HACOR Score
Predicts failure of noninvasive ventilation (NIV) in hypoxemic patients.
Apply this tool 60 minutes after initiating non-invasive ventilation (NIV).
Advice
- This tool should not be used as the sole determinant for intubation; consider it alongside clinical judgment and other indicators.
- For patients with a high score (>5), early intubation may reduce in-hospital mortality.
- If NIV appears successful (score ≤5), maintain close monitoring and consider other supportive measures to optimize respiratory function.
- Reassess the patient frequently, as changes in the score over time may indicate a need for escalation.
