While higher scores suggest more severe disease, we are not aware of any current management recommendations based on UCEIS scores.

  • Chen et al. (2021) identified a baseline UCEIS score ≥6 as being associated with a high probability of mesalazine treatment failure.
  • High baseline UCEIS scores were also linked to a loss of response to biologics, with Di Ruscio et al. (2021) reporting scores ≥7 as predictive of colectomy within a median time of 5 months.
  • Additionally, Yan et al. (2023) suggested that a UCEIS score ≤3 could define clinical remission in UC patients treated with vedolizumab, while scores ≥4 may indicate a need for therapeutic escalation.
